Free ChatGPT prompts PDF: this 8-page download gives you 75 fill-in-the-blank prompts, grouped by what you want to do: write, plan, learn, decide and check. Replace the [brackets] with your own details, paste the prompt into ChatGPT and review the reply. It is free, prints on A4 and needs no sign-up.

Most people open ChatGPT, stare at the empty box and type something vague. A fill-in-the-blank prompt fixes that. It gives you the shape of a good request, and you add the details only you know. This page shows a real sample from the PDF, explains how to adapt each prompt, and then gives you the download. Nothing here needs an account, an email address or a card.

What is in the free ChatGPT prompts PDF?

The PDF is called ChatGPT Prompt Library by Outcome. It has eight pages and 75 prompts. Instead of sorting prompts by topic, it sorts them by the result you want, in five sections of 15 prompts each.

  • Write: a clear first draft, rewrite or set of words.

  • Plan: turn an aim, task or set of limits into manageable steps.

  • Learn: explore a subject, practise a skill or make a difficult idea clearer.

  • Decide: compare possibilities and clarify what matters to you.

  • Check: review a draft, organise information or spot questions to verify.

Every prompt has placeholders in square brackets. There is also a one-page guide at the start on how to use the library, a page of short phrases for adjusting a reply, and a reminder to check facts before you rely on an answer. What Is ChatGPT is independent of OpenAI, so nothing in the PDF is official OpenAI material.

What do the prompts look like? A real sample

Here are three prompts from each section, copied word for word from the PDF. The numbers match the numbers in the download.

Write

  • Prompt 01: Draft a [type of message] to [person or group] about [topic]. Keep it [tone] and include [key detail].

  • Prompt 02: Turn these notes into a clear paragraph for [audience]: [paste notes]. Keep [detail] unchanged.

  • Prompt 05: Write a friendly reply to [message]. Acknowledge [point], answer [question] and avoid [topic or claim].

Plan

  • Prompt 01: Plan [goal] for [time period]. Break it into [number] steps and include a simple way to track progress.

  • Prompt 03: Create a weekly plan around [priorities], [available hours] and [fixed commitments]. Leave space for breaks.

  • Prompt 04: Turn this goal into small actions I can complete in [time available]: [goal]. Start with the easiest step.

Learn

  • Prompt 01: Explain [topic] to me as a beginner. Start with the main idea, then give one everyday example.

  • Prompt 05: Quiz me on [topic] one question at a time. Wait for my answer before giving feedback.

  • Prompt 07: Explain [concept] using an analogy about [familiar interest]. Then say where the analogy stops being accurate.

Decide

  • Prompt 01: Compare [option A] and [option B] for [goal]. Use these priorities: [priorities]. Note what is unknown.

  • Prompt 03: Help me choose between [options]. Ask up to three questions about my needs before comparing them.

  • Prompt 14: Suggest a small, reversible way to test [idea] before I commit to a larger change.

Check

  • Prompt 01: Check this draft for unclear sentences and suggest edits without changing the meaning: [draft].

  • Prompt 06: Extract the dates, names and actions from these notes. Mark anything incomplete rather than guessing: [notes].

  • Prompt 08: Check this explanation for statements that sound certain but lack support. List them for me to verify: [text].

The other 60 prompts follow the same pattern, and they are all in the download.

How do you adapt a prompt to your own task?

OpenAI's own help centre gives the same advice in short form: be clear and specific, give enough context, and refine your prompt by reviewing the reply and adjusting it (OpenAI Help Center: prompt engineering best practices). The fill-in-the-blank format builds that habit in four steps.

  1. Pick a goal. Go to Write, Plan, Learn, Decide or Check.

  2. Fill in the brackets. Replace every [placeholder] with details that fit your task, and remove any instruction that does not apply.

  3. Add helpful context. Say who the answer is for, what you already know and what a useful result should include.

  4. Review the reply. Check that it answers your request, then ask a follow-up question if something is unclear, missing or too detailed.

A worked example

Illustrative example, not a test we ran. Write prompt 01 reads: "Draft a [type of message] to [person or group] about [topic]. Keep it [tone] and include [key detail]." Filled in, it might become:

Draft a short email to my landlord about a dripping kitchen tap. Keep it polite and include that it started on Monday and that I am free for a repair visit on Thursday.

The vague request has become a specific one, with a reader, a tone and two facts that must appear. That is what the brackets are for.

How to adjust a reply

If the first answer is close but not quite right, ask for a change. The last page of the PDF lists these short phrases:

  • make it shorter

  • make it simpler

  • give me three options

  • change the tone to [tone]

  • show your reasoning

  • what did you assume?

Is it safe to put my details into a prompt?

Mostly yes, as long as you fill the brackets with what the task needs and nothing more. OpenAI's September 2025 study of 1.5 million consumer conversations found that about three quarters were about practical guidance, seeking information and writing. By message type, 49% were asking, 40% were doing and 11% were expressing, and roughly 70% of usage was not work-related (OpenAI: How people are using ChatGPT). The study covers consumer plans only.

In other words, most prompts are everyday ones, and everyday prompts rarely need private details. Leave out names, account numbers and anything confidential. Our plain-English privacy guide explains what ChatGPT does with your chats, and the complete beginner's guide helps if you are new to it. Always check important facts with a reliable source.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free ChatGPT prompts PDF I can download?

Yes. The ChatGPT Prompt Library by Outcome is a free, eight page PDF with 75 fill-in-the-blank prompts. Use the Free Download button on this page to open it. It costs nothing and there is no account to create.

Do I need to sign up or give my email address?

No. The button opens the PDF directly. We do not ask for your name, your email address or any payment details, and the download is not gated behind a newsletter.

How many prompts are in the PDF?

There are 75 prompts, split into five sections of 15: Write, Plan, Learn, Decide and Check. The PDF also has a short how-to-use page and a page of phrases for adjusting a reply.

Do I need a paid ChatGPT plan to use the prompts?

The prompts are plain text and do not depend on a paid feature, so you can paste them into any ChatGPT chat. Limits on free accounts change over time, so check OpenAI's current plan details if you hit one.

Can I print the PDF?

Yes. Every page sits on an A4 portrait sheet, so it prints at normal size. Shorter pages leave some blank space at the bottom, which is handy for writing your own notes.

Will the prompts work in other AI chatbots?

They are written in plain language, so you can try them elsewhere, but replies will differ from one chatbot to another. The PDF was written with ChatGPT in mind, and we have not tested it on other tools.
