ChatGPT Go is OpenAI's lowest-cost paid plan, priced at $8 a month on chatgpt.com and £6.99 on the UK App Store. It keeps unlimited everyday text chats and adds higher limits for images, file uploads, data analysis and memory. It does not include the top Plus models, and it may show ads.

ChatGPT Go is the low-cost step between the Free plan and Plus. If you keep hitting the Free limits on images, uploads and memory but do not want to pay Plus prices, Go is the plan OpenAI built for you. To see Go next to every other tier, read ChatGPT plans compared, or check the caps in ChatGPT limits by plan.

This guide explains what Go includes, what it leaves out, how the limits work and whether it is worth paying for. I checked OpenAI's pricing page and its Go help article on 21 October 2026. OpenAI changes plans often, so confirm the details on your own checkout screen before you pay.

In this guide: what ChatGPT Go is, what it costs, what you get, the limits, how it compares with Free and Plus, ads, who it suits, and how to sign up or cancel.

ChatGPT Go plan price and limits

What is ChatGPT Go?

ChatGPT Go is a low-cost subscription plan from OpenAI. OpenAI's help centre describes it as a plan that gives expanded access to ChatGPT's most popular features at an affordable price. It sits between Free and Plus, so it is the first paid step up.

Go is available in every country where ChatGPT is supported, which includes the UK. It is billed monthly and you can cancel at any time. It is a personal plan, designed for one person. Teams should look at the Business plan instead.

How much does ChatGPT Go cost?

OpenAI lists ChatGPT Go at $8 a month on chatgpt.com. On the UK App Store the price is £6.99 a month. We cover the full price list in our guide to how much ChatGPT costs in the UK. Prices differ by where you subscribe, so the checkout screen shows your real total.

Next to the other personal plans, the gap looks like this:

  • Free: $0 a month

  • Go: $8 a month, or £6.99 on the UK App Store

  • Plus: $20 a month, or £19.99 on the UK App Store

  • Pro: from $100 a month

On the dollar prices, Go costs 60% less than Plus. On the UK App Store prices it costs about 65% less, at £6.99 against £19.99. Over 12 months that is £83.88 for Go against £239.88 for Plus. OpenAI does not offer annual billing for Go, so you pay month by month.

What do you get with ChatGPT Go?

Go includes everything in the Free plan, plus expanded access to several tools. According to OpenAI's help centre, that means:

  • Higher usage limits than Free for eligible features

  • More image generation

  • More file uploads, so you can work with more documents and spreadsheets

  • More advanced data analysis, such as using Python to explore data

  • Longer memory and a larger context window

  • Access to projects, tasks, custom GPTs and the Library, subject to feature availability and storage limits

  • Use of your Go plan in supported apps and sites through Sign in with ChatGPT, subject to plan limits

OpenAI's pricing page also lists voice chats with video, scheduled tasks and the ability to create and share plugins in the Go column. Go includes Think, OpenAI's reasoning mode, on the web and in the mobile app. It does not include the Sol models or legacy models such as GPT-4o.

One detail does not match across OpenAI's pages. The help article says voice mode in Go has the same usage limits as Free, while the pricing page lists more voice chats. If voice matters to you, check the limits inside the app.

What are the ChatGPT Go limits?

Free and Go users both get unlimited everyday text chats, subject to OpenAI's abuse guardrails. The difference is in the features that cost more to run. Go raises the limits on images, file uploads and data analysis, but it does not remove them.

OpenAI does not publish exact message counts for Go. It says usage is subject to plan limits, abuse guardrails and temporary restrictions during high demand. Treat any site that quotes a precise number with caution.

The pricing page does give some figures for context size. On GPT Instant, the total context window is 27K on Free and 54K on Go, which is double. The input maximum is roughly 12 pages of text on Free and roughly 40 pages on Go. For reasoning models, Go has a 256K context window and roughly 320 pages of input, the same as Plus.

ChatGPT Go compared with Free and Plus

How is ChatGPT Go different from Free and Plus?

ChatGPT Go vs Free

Go gives you more of the same. Free has limited uploads, limited image creation, limited data analysis and limited memory, and Go lifts those. Go also adds scheduled tasks and video in voice chats, which Free does not list. Our guide, Is ChatGPT Free? Free vs Plus vs Pro explained, covers what the Free plan includes in more detail.

ChatGPT Go vs Plus

Plus is where the more powerful models and heavier tools begin. On OpenAI's pricing page, Plus includes the Sol models and GPT-6 Astra, expanded deep research, full Codex access, ChatGPT Work on desktop, web and mobile, interactive tables and charts, image generation with Thinking, and early access to new features. Go lists none of these, and its deep research and Codex access are limited. The pricing page also flags ads only on Go.

If you are weighing Plus against the top tier, read our comparison, ChatGPT Plus vs Pro.

Does ChatGPT Go have ads?

OpenAI's pricing page says the Go plan may include ads. The help article says OpenAI may start testing ads in ChatGPT Go in the future. That wording is cautious, so ads may not appear for every user yet. OpenAI explains how ads work in its ads FAQ, which is linked in the references below.

If an ad-free experience matters to you, read the ads FAQ before you subscribe, because the policy can change.

Is ChatGPT Go worth it, and who is it for?

Go makes sense when Free keeps stopping you but Plus is more than you need. Typical examples include:

  • A student who uploads lecture notes and PDFs and hits the Free upload limit

  • Someone who makes images for social posts or presentations and wants more than Free allows

  • A person who wants ChatGPT to remember more about their projects over time

  • A user who wants a cheap taste of paid ChatGPT before deciding on Plus

Go is a poor fit if you need the top models, extended deep research, heavy coding in Codex or legacy models. In that case Plus is the better choice.

A simple rule works well. Start on Free, move to Go when a limit annoys you during a normal week, and move to Plus only if the tools or models are what hold you back. Because plans are billed monthly, switching costs you little.

How do you sign up for, switch to or cancel ChatGPT Go?

Sign up: log into ChatGPT, click your profile icon, choose Upgrade plan and select Try Go. If you subscribed through the App Store or Play Store, the upgrade can take a few minutes to appear. Restart the app if it does not show.

Switch from Plus or Pro: OpenAI does not refund the difference. Your current plan stays active until the end of your billing cycle, and then your account moves to Go at the Go rate.

Cancel: click your profile icon, choose Settings and then Account to manage your subscription, view invoices and cancel. Our step-by-step guide shows how to cancel your ChatGPT subscription.

The bottom line
